"Google SketchUp 8" 1

I have been using this program for A-Level Product design, and I was recently browsing through my previous pieces of work, and have found the following pieces of furniture that I designed:

Wardrobe

Double dressing table

Bedside cabinets

At the time of creation, these pieces were designed to come as a set as the designs all match to a certain extent, and the pieces gel well with eachother.

A2 Project 1

For the past few months I have been working on a project for my A-Level Product Design course, and below is the product which I will make:

This is a storage unit where the drawers do not open the conventional way.

The top drawer has a multi-direction opening mechanism, and the bottom two slide to the side. With careful designing and a high standard manufacturing method, this product will be both sustainable as well as aesthetically pleasing.

Design thoughts

 'Design thoughts'
'Design thoughts (black silhouette)'

Picture in Picture 1

I call this, 'Sunset Inside'.

It may sound cheesy, but it is simply used to show the peace and beauty inside of everyone.

Blogging on the go.

I have recently installed the Blogger application on my Android smartphone, and this will allow me to upload and pictures that I may take, or upload anything that I see useful for my design log!

Modern day technology

As I am very interested in developing society, I decided to create a 'QR code' that would link to my blog, so I searched via Google to create one, and found the following website:

This website allowed me to create a 'QR code' that links to my website, and will allow others to view directly on their mobile phone.

Here is the QR code:

London Design Museum 4

Here is a third product that I found in the museum:

I found this chair particularly creative, not for the ergonomic factor, but simply for its aesthetically pleasing look. I found that this marble chair gave off a very appealing vibe due to the collection of colours in a non specific order.

Throughout this trip, I saw many other products that I found interesting, but I felt that these were the most enticing, due to the fact that I can relate to them more because of the way I feel towards all aspects of design.

Here is another product that I found very interesting:

Here is and all in one office that I found in the exhibition. It gives you a place to sit, a desk to work on, and also little ledges to place things such as drinks on. This product would not appeal to those who are claustrophobic, but nonetheless it is a fantastic design, and would be perfect for those who like to seclude themselves from others, and get work done.

During the trip I found various eye-catching pieces around the exhibition, and below is one example of what I saw:

I found this piece very interesting, simply because of the recycle factor of creating a chandelier out of old pairs of glasses, and not only is it eco-friendly, but it is also quite attractive which is very surprising for a bundle of old glasses.

London Design Museum 1

I have recently taken a trip to the 'London Design Museum' for my Design & Technology A2, and was filled with a lot of information to how designs come about, and where the inspiration comes from.

During this trip, I had a talk from a designer caller, 'Dominic Wilcox', and his ideas and creations were very interesting, as they adapt normal products, to create an imaginative and artistic creation.

The video below shows some of his watch adaptations, that depict various situations:

Out of these creations, I feel that the 'Oblivious iphone user' is the most interesting, simply because it encapsulates modern day society who are trapped by technology, and are blind to what is going on around them.

Lifestyle 2

I call this, 'Design Dictionary'

This is a collection of words that describe my daily thoughts revolving around the world of design.

I have decided to do this to show what I think design actually is, and what I think are the things involved in order for a simple thought to become something as amazing as a creation on paper, or via technology.

Lifestyle 1

I call this, 'Summer Swag (2011)'

This is not exactly a design, but simply shows a collection of my clothing for 2011.

I have decided to do this, because I am basically a, 'label baby', and I make sure that the way I dress shows me in a good light. I am not saying that wearing big brand names makes me better, but it just so happens that these are a few of the brands that I like and wear, and I feel that my clothing shows who I am to a certain extent, and I make sure that I always dress well.

Playing with brushes 2

I call this design 'New age Galaxy'

This is just a simple design that I have created.

I created this on Photoshop CS5, and it is a combination of different brushes that I have used, and I have used different colours to create an abstract effect, and make it look like a discoloured galaxy, hence being of a 'new age'.

I call this design 'SMOKY'

This is just a simple design that I have created.

I created this on Photoshop CS5, and it simply says the name of my designs, with a smoky background that I created using various different smoke brushes.

Random uploading . . .

As I am focusing on my A-Levels at the moment, my uploads may not be on a consistent time basis, so when I do upload something, it may not be very soon, but will surely be worth it.

Portfolio of work

My name is Reece Sylvester, and I am currently a sixth form student, who enjoys the world of graphic design, product design and the whole design industry.

I have decided to create this blog as a way of uploading things that explain who I am and why I enjoy design, and I will also be adding any designs that I have done myself, so that I can begin to create an online portfolio of my work.
